About You

You are an accomplished and experienced business unit leader or product manager who relishes the challenge of launching a transformative new product. You will be responsible for taking Brightseed’s first discovery, Magellan, to market as a key ingredient in partnership with food, beverage or supplements companies. In this role, you will own the product concept, define consumer and channel market messaging, drive commercial terms, establish pricing strategy, lead partner discussions and manage the growth of the business line once it is established.   

By leading the commercialization of Magellan you will not only be responsible for the success of a single product line, but you will also write the playbook for commercializing the series of Brightseed discoveries that are coming down the discovery pipeline.


In particular, you will:

Define target Magellan consumers and market channel influencers

  • Dive into market research to define the target consumer that benefits from Magellan’s health properties, as well as the health care professionals that guide and influence them

  • Identify claims that the target consumer desires, and work with our Medical Affairs team to incorporate them into product messaging, designing the relevant pre-clinical and clinical trials roadmap

  • Create material that conveys Magellan’s benefits to the target consumers and health care professionals who recommend health and wellness products


Define go to market strategy

  • Research the ingredient, food and beverage market landscape to identify target product development partners to take Magellan to market

  • Perform and maintain updated competitive landscape analyses to determine our key points of differentiation

  • Create and manage a pipeline of potential partner conversations

  • Capture all findings and progress in compelling slides to support business development and financing activities

  • Negotiate collaborative development terms with potential product development partners


Create a compelling ingredient and product

  • Define Magellan’s target ingredient and product functionality parameters, in conjunction with our Process Engineering and Medical Affairs team

  • Execute proof of concept tests to validate functionality, consumer response and preferences, technical scale up process, etc.


Manage Magellan P&L

  • Define pricing of ingredient and IP royalty terms, working in conjunction with our Process Engineering team and counsel

  • Project manage product development collaborations with key partners

  • After a successful launch in partnership with a dietary supplements or food and beverage company, chart the growth for the Magellan business line


Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience taking innovative products to market preferably in the ingredient, nutrition, dietary supplements, flavors and fragrances, food and beverage industries

  • Proven track record in establishing successful commercial partnerships

  • Deep knowledge of the food industry players and dynamics

  • Domain knowledge and experience with products that deliver health benefits

  • Nutritional education or R&D experience a plus

This role will report to the Co-founder and COO.
